The Inherit the Winds original TV anime has cast Ryōhei Kimura as Nagakura Shinpachi. The anime will premiere in January 2027 on CBC, TBS, and 26 other affiliated networks, with an early theatrical preview screening in 2026. The story follows a soldier who has lost his memories and is aided by the famous Shinsengumi member Okita Sōji, who names him 'Tachikawa Jinsuke'. A four-panel manga adaptation will also launch in 2026, drawn by Matsuri Muramatsu. Narui, a playwright and founder of Caramel Box, is in charge of the original story with cooperation by Azuki Mashiba. This is a significant project for Narui, as it is based on his stage play titled 'Kaze wo Tsugumono', which he has previously worked on. However, the anime is listed as an 'original' TV anime, with a different title and writing style.
